INNOVATIVE. SUSTAINABLE. PROVEN.

Siltworm is founded on the premise that there is a more cost effective, responsible way to mitigate erosion and control sediment in order to maintain a more ecologically friendly job-site. Joe Moore, the founder of Siltworm, after 16 years in residential and commercial construction, pursued the industry of erosion control and set out to facilitate the development of a rolled filtered product that is more reliable, bio-degradable, easier to install, and sets a higher standard of expectation. In the erosion control arena, Joe and his team have diligently worked with third party testing to simplify the process and expedite a more cost effective alternative to traditional means of controlling erosion. The data is undeniable – Siltworm technology is not only sustainable, but the best performing. Our teams’s passion and energy toward erosion and sediment control education has helped grow the knowledge and acceptance of SILTWORM nationwide. We are excited to see what the future holds for this changing industry!      Click for our Green Story!

BENEFITS

The use of 100% recycled wood filler material provides the following benefits:

  • The wood filler retains an increased capacity to filter storm water, which increases filtration, and prevents and reduces erosion.
  • Siltworm retains more sediment than traditional perimeter controls such as silt fencing and allows a larger volume of clean water to pass through.
  • The wood filler separates and retains pollutants such as heavy metals, nitrogen, phosphorus, oil and grease, fuels, herbicides, pesticides, petroleum and other potentially hazardous substances (at rates of over 90%) thereby improving downstream water quality.
  • Siltworm can be installed on frozen ground and concrete
  • Its flexibility allows Siltworm to be wrapped around storm inlets for an added layer of protection.
  • With Siltworm, the line of defense can be moved as the job-site changes, saving our customers time and money, and our municipalities the headache of continual violations from building contractors who would otherwise be forced to wait on silt fence installers and equipment.
  • Siltworm has very limited trenching and staking requirements, which allows its users/contractors to install with ease.

TECHNOLOGY

Siltworm is a polypropylene, geotextile tube filled with a proprietary blend of 100% recycled, kiln-dried, material. The wood filler retains an increased volume of water, which prevents or reduces rill erosion. With superior filtration rates and ease of installation, your erosion control becomes both environmentally friendly and economical.

Siltworm, which is oval to round in cross section, provides a three-dimensional filter that retains sediment and other pollutants (suspended solids, nutrients, and motor oil) while allowing clean water to flow through. Siltworm is used in place of traditional sediment and erosion control products such as silt fence, straw waddles and compost socks.

INSTALLATION

Heavy vegetation should be cut down or removed and extremely uneven surfaces should be leveled to ensure uniform contact between the Siltworm and the installation surface. Arrange Siltworm around the perimeter of the site and perpendicular to storm water flow. In sites with a grade greater than 13% or in a ditch-check application, Siltworm can be staked or stacked for additional security. It is recommended to overlap adjacent Siltworm by 6” (see attached installation manual).

Installation of Siltworm can be performed without disturbing the soil surface, thereby reducing erosion. Siltworm is not required to be staked or trenched which allows for easy access to construction sites and is not damaged by wind or aggressive rainfalls. These advantages lead to cost savings for your company, either through reduced labor and replacement or disposal costs.
