GEOTEXTILES

Geotextile Fabrics – the oldest and most commonly used geosynthetic today – are engineered to provide cost-effective solutions to meet specific design requirements. And although there are at least 80 specific ‘applications’ for geotextiles that have been developed, a geotextile always performs at least one of five discrete ‘functions’:

  • Separation
  • Reinforcement
  • Filtration
  • Drainage
  • Protection

GEOGRIDS

Geogrids form a distinct category of geosynthetics designed for reinforcement. These products are characterized by a relatively high tensile strength and a uniformly distributed array of large apertures (openings between the longitudinal and transverse elements). The apertures allow soil particles on either side of the installed sheet to come into direct contact, thereby increasing the interaction between the geogrid, aggregate and some soils. Also, the apertures ensure vertical drainage of a reinforced free-draining aggregate/soil.

The geogrid elements vary in polymer type and cross-sectional dimensions. They can sometimes change shape and dimensions within their length. Geogrids are either integrally manufactured (punched and drawn sheets; or extruded), ultrasonically or adhesive bonded strips, or joined in a knitting or weaving process and then coated. Polymer types include polyethylene, polypropylene or high tenacity polyester that has been coated.

GEOMEMBRANES & LINERS

Carthage Mills can provide Geomembrane and Liners in a variety of physical, mechanical, and chemical resistant properties designed to meet the requirements of a wide range of applications (i.e. Products can be compounded for exposure to ultraviolet light, ozone, and microorganisms in soil). Different combinations of these properties exist in various geosynthetic lining materials to cover a wide spectrum of geotechnical applications and designs. Click for more information!

Liners / geomembranes are now commonly used in:

  • Irrigation Canals
  • Mining
  • Storm water applications
  • Reservoirs
  • Agriculture
  • Landfills
  • Aquaculture

GEOCELLS

Carthage Mills CX and CXW Series of Geocells are three-dimensional, expandable panels made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). When expanded during installation, they resemble a honeycomb and form the walls into which specified infill materials are placed and compacted. Typical infill materials are aggregates, local onsite materials, vegetated topsoil, and concrete.

Typical uses of cellular confinement (Geocells):

  • Erosion protection and stabilization of steep slope surfaces
  • Lining of channels and other hydraulic structures
  • Ground stabilization – Static and dynamic load support on weak subgrade soils
  • Multi-layered earth or aggregate filled near vertical walls
  • Lakeshores and Banks with Light Runoff

DRAINAGE COMPOSITES

Drainage plays a critical role in the design and construction of below grade applications. Without proper drainage, groundwater seepage may cause hydrostatic pressure and leakage, resulting in structural damage.

Carthage Mills DX series of drainage composites includes drain boards (also called wall/sheet drains), strip drains, and geonets. While all of the products in this series are used to direct the flow of water, each individual product is created for a specific application(s), some being horizontal and others vertical.
